A chaotic first inning sank the Dodgers. Entering the game, the Dodgers and the Giants were tied at 1,288 wins in their 136-year rivalry.

Again, Yoshinobu Yamamoto did not receive any run support and was charged with a loss.

On a cool and sometimes rainy Tuesday night at Oracle Park, the Los Angeles Dodgers lost to the San Francisco Giants, 3–1.

Yamamoto pitched at least six innings for the eighth consecutive outing, dating back to last year, including the postseason. In the first inning, however, he didn’t have his customary pinpoint command. A Hyeseong Kim throwing error undermined Yamamoto’s effort. He allowed two hits and a walk. Teoscar Hernández and Alex Call collided on a fly ball catch. Both players are fine.

After the first inning, Yamamoto settled down and pitched a gem. He didn’t allow another hit until the sixth. He struck out seven and walked two. With any run support, he would have a no-decision, perhaps a win, instead of a loss.

The Dodgers couldn’t capitalize on seven walks. Their only run came via four walks to Freddie Freeman, Max Muncy, Dalton Rushing, and Kim.

On an infield single, Shohei Ohtani extended his on-base streak to 53 games, tying Shawn Green for the longest streak for a Los Angeles Dodger.

Tanner Scott was sharp in the eighth.

On Wednesday, Blake Snell begins his rehabilitation assignment.

The Dodgers will look to even the series with Ohtani on the mound.
