The Dodgers snapped their seven-game losing streak with a nail-biting, extra-inning victory.

On a hot Saturday night at Chase Field, the Los Angeles Dodgers edged the Arizona Diamondbacks, 2–1, in ten innings.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto wasn’t sharp, but it is understandable because he lost eight pounds during a stomach illness just before his last start against the Boston Red Sox. He didn’t make the trip to Chicago earlier this week since he needed to rest.

On Saturday, while constantly in trouble during his 5.2 innings, Yamamoto managed to get out of every jam. He didn’t have his customary brilliant command. He used every pitch in his arsenal to quiet the pesky Diamondbacks. He allowed three hits, issued three walks, and struck out six. Without being sharp, Yamamoto pitched well enough to keep his team in a position to win the game.

Evan Phillips retired the last hitter of the sixth.

Although Alex Vesia has been the most consistent reliever, he began the seventh inning with two walks but retired the next three hitters quickly.

The Dodgers’ offense was dormant until the eighth inning when Kyle Tucker hit a solo home run.

Kyle Hurt began the eighth inning dominantly, getting the first two batters quickly, and he loaded the bases. Tanner Scott, who threw 24 pitches on Friday, retired the last batter of the eighth inning with the bases loaded.

A night after he blew a save, Edwin Díaz started the ninth inning by allowing back-to-back triples to tie the score. However, with the go-ahead run on third, he pitched with a different level of intensity than he had in a Dodger uniform. His fastball was unhittable, and he looked like he found his put-away slider.

In the tenth inning, the winning run scored on Shohei Ohtani’s infield single.

Jack Dreyer was sharp and calm as he started the game-ending double play.

On Sunday, the Dodgers will try to end their six-game road trip by winning the series against the Diamondbacks. Justin Wrobleski has struggled in his last two starts when he allowed eight home runs, and he will try to quiet a strong Diamondbacks’ offense.
