Shohei Ohtani delivered a dominant six-inning performance but received no offensive support.
On a beautiful Wednesday night at Oracle Park, the San Francisco Giants shut out the Los Angeles Dodgers, 3–0.
Ohtani was sharp again, lowering his ERA to 0.38. He was never in serious trouble despite allowing five hits. He used all his pitches with pinpoint command, striking out seven and walking none. His fastball averaged 100 miles per hour, and he used it 52% of the time.
Ohtani’s on-base streak was snapped at 53 games.
Jack Dreyer struggled in the seventh inning when he allowed three consecutive hits, including a three-run homer to a weak-hitting catcher, Patrick Bailey. Dreyer has been effective this year, and any pitcher can have an off day.
Kyle Hurt used eleven pitches to retire the Giants in order in the eighth inning.
At no point during this game did the Dodgers deliver a timely hit. Freddie Freeman had two hits. In eighteen innings against the Giants’ pitching staff, the Dodgers have scored only one run on a bases-loaded walk. They need to improve their situational hitting.
Earlier in the day, Edwin Díaz underwent successful right elbow surgery to remove loose bodies. The Dodgers hope he can return at some point during the second half.
Blake Snell had a sharp first rehabilitation outing when he pitched three scoreless innings.
On Thursday afternoon, Tyler Glasnow will look to help the Dodgers salvage the series in San Francisco.
