A two-run homer in the ninth inning extended the Dodgers’ losing streak to seven games.

On a hot Friday night at Chase Field, the Los Angeles Dodgers lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks, 4–3.

The Dodgers had two runners thrown out. Twice in bases-loaded situations, the Dodgers scored only one run each. The Diamondbacks stole a home run from Tommy Edman.

For the first five innings, Merrill Kelly no-hit the Dodgers, but left the game with an injury in the sixth inning. In the eighth inning, Andy Pages hammered a go-ahead home run.

Since the All-Star break, Roki Sasaki has been sharp, and it continued on Friday. He had a great command of his splitter and slider. Although he allowed two runs in his six innings, he didn’t seem to be in trouble. While walking one, he struck out five.

Eduardo Henriquez has had a difficult period from the middle of June to the first of August. He struggled with his command, causing runners to reach base without getting a hit. However, on Friday, he was dominant with two strikeouts.

Beginning the eighth inning, Tanner Scott retired the first two batters quickly. And then, he allowed a double and two walks to load the bases. He threw twelve pitches to Nolan Arenado to strike him out. After the game, Dave Roberts said that Scott’s velocity was down. Scott relied on his slider a little too much.

Since coming back from having loose bodies removed from his pitching elbow, Edwin Díaz has struggled with his command and slider. On Friday, he walked the first batter of the ninth inning. After retiring the next out, he hung a slider that ended the game. After the game, he said that he must find his slider.

After the game, when the media asked Roberts that he had considered changing closers, Roberts answered that he didn’t have any other options.

The Dodgers will try to halt their longest losing streak of the season with Yoshinobu Yamamoto on the mound.
