Emmet Sheehan bounced back from a difficult outing against the Washington Nationals to have a quality start against the Rangers.
The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Texas Rangers, 6–3 on a cool Saturday night at Dodger Stadium.
Sheehan’s spring was delayed by illness. His velocity and command haven’t looked sharp in his first two starts. He had mechanical problems, but the Dodger pitching coaches helped him to correct the problems. Brandon Nimmo’s two homers marred Sheehan’s six-inning outing. Sheehan had six strikeouts and walked one.
Shohei Ohtani led off the Dodgers’ first inning with a monstrous solo home run. After Will Smith’s single and Freddie Freeman’s walk, Teoscar Hernández blasted a three-run shot.
Andy Pages added an insurance run for the Dodgers in the eighth.
In the seventh, Jack Dreyer bounced back from a rough outing in Toronto by striking out the side.
Tanner Scott had an excellent eighth inning.
To start the ninth inning, Blake Treinen allowed two baserunners while getting two outs. On his thirtieth birthday, Alex Vesia got the last out to earn the save.
Before the game, Blake Snell threw a live batting practice for the first time this year. He looked good, but the Dodgers await hearing how he feels on Sunday. The next step is a two-inning simulated game. He won’t start a rehab assignment until he can throw four innings.
The Dodgers go for the sweep on Sunday.
