After five consecutive one-run games, winning by five runs felt like a blowout for the Dodgers. They had a home run. Tyler Glasnow was fantastic for seven innings.

After an hour-long rain delay at Comerica Park, the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Detroit Tigers, 6–1. This win ended a difficult losing road trip.

After missing three months with a bad back, Tyler Glasnow has pitched better than expected. Most pitchers need time to find their control. Glasnow has walked one in twelve innings, and when he did, he yelled out of frustration. His breaking pitches have been sharp. In Atlanta, he was victimized by soft contact. However, he mowed down the Tigers while striking out six in seven innings. He gave the Dodgers’ bullpen a well-deserved break.

Kyle Hurt and Seth Halverson were sharp as they finished the game for the Dodgers.

Since the beginning of July, the Dodgers have struggled offensively. They can’t get the timely hit. Frequently, they have no power. They don’t work the counts and chase balls out of the strike zone. No one can understand what happened to the Dodgers’ offense.

On Sunday, Teoscar Hernández delivered with a timely double and a two-run homer. Miguel Rojas had a sacrifice fly. The Dodgers took advantage of two wild pitches to score two runs. They took their walks and left only six runners on base.

Shohei Ohtani is the slumping Dodger. He is watching strikes and swinging at balls. He has no power. Though he can’t pitch because of his sore left knee and right biceps, the Dodgers maintain that Ohtani’s offensive production problems aren’t physical.

Everyone who follows Ohtani knows his first love is pitching. On Friday, his bullpen was cut short due to knee pain. Neither the Dodgers nor Ohtani knows whether he will return to the mound this season. The team needs Ohtani’s offensive production more. This disappointment must be weighing on Ohtani’s mind. For the first time since 2021, he probably won’t win the MVP. Since July, the unicorn has been an ordinary player. For this global superstar, it must be hard to swallow.

On Tuesday, the Dodgers will open a nine-game home stand against the struggling Saint Louis Cardinals. Eric Lauer will be on the mound.
