On a beautiful spring Wednesday evening at Dodger Stadium, the Cleveland Guardians beat the Los Angeles Dodgers, 4–1.
The Dodgers couldn’t muster any offense against Gavin Williams. They struck out twelve times. Andy Pages had three hits. Teoscar Hernández singled in the eighth. Freddie Freeman hit a ninth-inning home run. Even when the Dodgers had runners on, they didn’t have the required hit to score. On the first homestand, their offense has not clicked yet.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto went six innings, allowing two runs. His control wasn’t pinpoint as normal. He struck only two and walked one. He even hit a batter. He pitched well enough to win if he had any offensive support.
Will Klein pitched 1.2 innings and walked two.
Similar to last year, Tanner Scott gave up a two-run homer with two strikes. He was sharp in his first three outings of the season, but on Wednesday, he hung a slider to José Ramirez.
Friday, the Dodgers start a six-game road trip to Washington and Toronto, looking for better offensive production.
