For the first time in three years, the Los Angeles Dodgers hit three sacrifice flies and scored in every inning through the first five innings.
Despite the frigid temperatures at Coors Field, the Dodgers walloped the Colorado Rockies, 71.
Unlike last year in Philadelphia, Tyler Glasnow didn’t let the cold conditions bother him. In seven innings, he struck out seven and walked two. He allowed two hits and a run. He induced nine groundouts, which was unusual for him, a fly ball pitcher.
Jack Dreyer carried that dominance for the last two innings of the game.
Hitters can’t stand batting in cold weather, but the Dodgers handled it to build up a lead. Max Muncy blasted two solo home runs. The Dodgers had productive outs to drive in runs. After the fifth inning, the temperature dropped, making it more difficult for the hitters to produce.
Saturday’s warmer weather should favor the Dodgers to take advantage of the young Rockies.
