When Values Clash: The Dodgers and the White House Give Me Pause

This is a hard article to write, but it must be done.

The Los Angeles Dodgers won the incredible 2025 World Series. The World Championship team is invited to the White House. The Dodgers have been and are leaning towards attending the ceremony.

I usually support the Dodgers in everything they do because the organization aligns with my values. They are classy, and they want to include everyone. This is my worldview.

I voted for President Donald Trump twice. If I could have gotten to the polls, I would have voted for President Trump in 2024. I thought the Trump administration would understand Middle America, where I have lived since 1995, better than his opponent.

But this current administration has crossed a line. This White House demonstrated no regard for people who have different views from its views. It doesn’t treat people with respect and dignity, which doesn’t align with my values. I cannot support the Dodger organization’s visit to the White House.

If the Dodger organization goes, will I stop supporting and writing about the Dodgers?

Of course not!

Will I be disappointed?

Yes, but I will understand why the Dodgers went.

I believe in strong borders. I believe everyone should be treated with respect, compassion, and dignity. Illegal immigrants are human beings. Some are violent, but most are good people who are looking for a better life.

I am a firm believer in the American Dream. I live in a country that doesn’t define you at birth. I could get a free education that enabled me to become a Dodger writer. I don’t have much money, but I am fed and clothed. The American Dream allowed me to be a Dodger writer for 32 years.

I was dismayed when the current administration chose to single out Minneapolis to look for illegal immigrants. Too many agents of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) are poorly trained and dangerous. These agents don’t know how to de-escalate a violent situation.  Neither Renee Good nor Tom Pretti should have been killed.

This administration has shown no class towards any opponent. In America, we are entitled to have a different opinion from the current administration. We don’t attack people either verbally or physically for having a different opinion. This administration doesn’t get it.

The Dodgers have created a friendly environment for every player. They let individuals be themselves. They accept people from different cultures and provide things for them to be comfortable and successful. They try not to create chaos to create headlines. Everyone respects Dave Roberts, Brandon Gomes, and Andrew Friedman.

Visiting the White House is not a good idea for the Dodger organization. Since 1947, when Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier, the Dodgers have represented fairness to all people, including minorities.

The Dodgers represent the second-largest city in the United States, and Los Angeles is a vibrant melting pot of many cultures from around the world. The current White House doesn’t understand or value this. Being a Pasadena native, I do.
