Leaving Shohei Ohtani on third in the ninth inning and a baserunning blunder by Kyle Tucker contributed to the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 7–6 loss to the Seattle Mariners on a hot Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium.   

Three times the Dodgers had the lead, but their pitching couldn’t hold on to it. Twice, the Dodgers left bases loaded. They went 3-for-11 with runners in scoring position.

Shohei Ohtani and Max Muncy hit solo home runs.

Justin Wrobleski allowed four home runs in his six innings and struggled to put away hitters without hard contact. The command of his arsenal wasn’t as good as normal. He struck out seven while walking no one. In his post-game press conference, Dave Roberts believed Wrobleski didn’t change the opposition’s eye level enough to be successful while Wrobleski thought he didn’t adapt to the Mariners’ game plan.

While Wrobleski has been magnificent this season, the Dodgers must manage his workload. He will have a career high in innings. The Dodgers need Wrobleski in the postseason. Since they don’t know how well Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow will pitch when they return, they must have Wrobleski built up for the playoffs.

Brock Stewart and Alex Vesia allowed home runs. Jack Dreyer was sharp in the ninth inning.

Before the game, the Dodgers activated Kiké Hernández from the IL and demoted Alex Freeland. Hernández has played in only two games after missing two months after having offseason elbow surgery before tearing his oblique. He should play this weekend against the Boston Red Sox.

On Wednesday, the Dodgers are expected to activate Edwin Dìaz after missing three months with elbow surgery to remove loose bodies. The Dodgers will look to snap a two-game losing streak with Eric Lauer on the mound.
