Tanner Scott allowed three runs in the eighth inning, and the Dodgers snapped a six-game winning streak.
The Los Angeles Dodgers wasted a fantastic start by Roki Sasaki in a 4–3 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies on a beautiful Saturday night at Dodger Stadium.
Since Sasaki developed a splitter instead of a fork ball, he has performed much better. He was sharp through 5.1 innings while striking out seven and walking one. He allowed only a solo home run to Alec Bohn. He used his improved fastball, slider, and splitter to baffle the slumping Phillies.
The Dodgers squandered many scoring opportunities though they scored three runs. Will Smith opened the second inning with an infield single, went to second on Miguel Rojas’ walk, and scored on Alex Call’s single.
In the fourth inning, Call doubled, went to third on a fielding error, and came home on Santiago Espinal’s sacrifice fly.
In the seventh inning, Andy Pages doubled, and Mookie Betts’ third hit brought him home.
Alex Vesia, Kyle Hurt, and Blake Treinen pitched well in relief. While Scott has been great all season, Saturday wasn’t his night. He couldn’t locate his pitches to put the opposition away, so he allowed a run-scoring single and a two-run homer.
On Sunday, with Yoshinobu Yamamoto on the mound, the Dodgers will look to win the series.
