On the night when Shohei Ohtani didn’t have his best command, he pitched five scoreless innings and contributed to the final score.
The Los Angeles Dodgers leave San Diego in first place in the National League West with a 4–0 victory over the San Diego Padres.
Ohtani gave himself a lead with a solo home run on the first pitch of the game.
Wednesday was a grind for Ohtani. He battled through five innings, escaping jams with timely pitches. He couldn’t locate the corners of the strike zone. He allowed three hits while striking out four and walking two.
Eduardo Henriquez, Blake Treinen, Kyle Hurt, and Will Klein continued the bullpen’s dominance. The bullpen now has 27 scoreless innings.
In the second inning, Max Muncy doubled, went to third on Will Smith’s single, and came home on Teoscar Hernández’s sacrifice fly.
In the fifth inning, Ohtani and Mookie Betts walked. Freddie Freeman hit into a force play that moved Ohtani to third. He came home on Kyle Tucker’s single.
Freddie Freeman had two doubles in this game, moving him into thirtieth place on the all-time list for doubles.
After a day off, the Dodgers start a three-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers. Justin Wrobleski will take the mound on Friday.
