Nolan McLean battled for seven innings in an old-fashioned pitching duel before the Dodgers scored a run in the eighth inning.
The Los Angeles Dodgers edged the New York Mets, 2–1, on a chilly Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a solo home run to Francisco Lindor and then retired the next twenty consecutive batters. He dotted his pitches on the corners. He struck out seven and walked one in 7.2 innings. He allowed four hits. Again, he proved that he is the Dodgers’ ace.
In the first inning, Kyle Tucker walked, advanced to third on Will Smith’s double, and scored on Freddie Freeman’s groundout.
No Dodger could figure out McLean’s ridiculous amount of movement on every pitch. McLean struck out eight and walked two. At 24, he is one of the most promising young starters in the National League.
Blake Treinen entered the game with two on and two outs in the eighth inning. He struck out the hitter to end the threat.
Pinch-hitting for Hyeseong Kim to start the eighth inning, Miguel Rojas walked. Santiago Espinal sacrificed Rojas to second. The Mets intentionally walked Shohei Ohtani. Tucker, who has been slumping in the early part of his Dodger tenure, dunked a single into left field, scoring Rojas.
Tuesday, the Dodgers honored healthcare workers. Alex and Kayla Vesia hosted the workers who helped them through their family tragedy last October. Vesia struck out the side to earn his second save of the season.
The Dodgers will look to sweep the Mets on Wednesday.
