On a perfect Tuesday afternoon at Camelback Ranch, the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-to-1.
Despite giving up a leadoff home run, Tyler Glasnow pitched into the fifth. He will be a traditional Dodger starter when the regular season starts. He had an opportunity to pitch in the World Baseball Classic, but he turned it down. He wanted to remain at Camelback Ranch to work with the Dodgers’ pitching staff.
Glasnow found mechanics that felt more comfortable last season as he returned from a right shoulder inflammation. He pitched sharply after his return and in the postseason. This spring, his dominance continued.
On the back fields, Roki Sasaki struck out nine young Chicago White Sox prospects in four innings. His command was better. After his appearance, Dave Roberts repeated that Sasaki will be in the starting rotation when the regular season begins. The Dodgers understand he will have growing pains on the major league level, but Sasaki’s upside is huge at 24.
Evan Phillips and Blake Snell threw off the mound for the first time this spring. Phillips won’t return from Tommy John surgery until after the All-Star break. Snell is dealing with a balky left shoulder since last October. He underwent physical therapy to strengthen his shoulder. He won’t be on the Opening Day roster.
Freddie Freeman went 2-for-3. He has been hitting the ball with authority this spring. Mookie Betts had two singles.
Tuesday was another day at the office for the Dodgers.
