On a beautiful Friday night at Camelback Ranch, the Los Angeles Dodgers shut out the Kansas City Royals 6-to-0.
Miguel Rojas, Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts, and Teoscar Hernández started and had three at-bats each. They went 9-for-12. Although they didn’t homer, they consistently hit the ball hard. If the season began tomorrow, they would be ready.
With Brusdar Graterol and Brock Stewart beginning the season on the IL, the Dodgers have two places for right-handed relievers. Will Klein and Eduardo Henriquez are competing for those spots.
Klein will live in Dodger folklore forever. In Game 3 of the 2025 World Series, Klein threw a career-high 73 pitches and worked four innings during the eighteen-inning game.
At 26, Klein is a journeyman. He has pitched well for the Royals, the Oakland Athletics, the Seattle Mariners, and the Dodgers. He has a good fastball with movement and a slider. He has good control. On Friday, he pitched a sharp inning.
At 23, Henriquez is a flamethrower. He sometimes doesn’t know where the ball is going, but at other times, his command is great. If he can conquer his command problems, he will be one of the best relievers in the major league. He showed great command in his inning on Friday.
Friday was the first night game of spring training. Because the Dodgers will play most night games during the regular season, it is crucial for the hitters to adjust to seeing the ball under the lights. In their first test, the Dodgers passed with flying colors.
