Whew! The Los Angeles Dodgers won Game 1 in the NLCS against the Milwaukee Brewers. Thank you, Blake Snell, for eight brilliant innings!
On Monday night at American Family Field, the Los Angeles Dodgers inched out the Milwaukee Brewers 2-to-1. Freddie Freeman blasted a solo home run. Mookie Betts received a bases-loaded walk to drive in the second run in the ninth.
For the first time since Don Larsen pitched a perfect game in the 1956 World Series against the Brooklyn Dodgers, Blake Snell faced the minimum for the eight innings. Snell was fantastic. He allowed a hit and no walks. At no time during this game was Snell under stress. He struck out ten.
The Dodgers had a massive base-running error in the fourth. The Dodgers filled the bases. Max Muncy looked like he hit a grand slam, but the Brewers’ center fielder, Sal Frelick, made an unbelievable catch. The ball popped out of Frelick’s glove but not far. For some reason, Teoscar Hernàndez thought he needed to tag up, and he was out at the plate. Will Smith was out at third. It was terrible, inexcusable base running.
In the sixth, Freeman blasted a solo homer.
In the ninth, Muncy walked, and Kiké Hernández singled Muncy to second. Andy Pages sacrificed the runners in scoring position. Shohei Ohtani was intentionally walked. Betts walked, scoring Muncy.
Roki Sasaki proved he was human. While he got two outs, Sasaki didn’t have the good control that he had shown in the postseason. His three perfect innings outing on Thursday seemed to affect him.
Blake Treinen also had control problems but retired the last out. The Brewers expanded the strike zone.
