The Los Angeles Dodgers gave the San Francisco Giants ten walks but still won.
On a beautiful Thursday night at Dodger Stadium, the Dodgers decreased their magic number to 6 to win the National League Western Division. The Dodgers’ pitchers allowed only one hit. Alex Vesia was brilliant as a closer. The Dodgers beat the San Francisco Giants 2-to-1.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto uncharacteristically struggled with his control, issuing six walks in 5.1 innings. He had a great velocity but couldn’t command. However, he battled.
Jack Dreyer finished the sixth.
Michael Kopech couldn’t locate anything in the strike zone in the seventh, but he retired one batter. Blake Treinen, who struggled with his command, even walking in a run, retired the last two batters of the inning.
Anthony Banda and Alex Vesia hurled a perfect eighth and ninth to preserve the important victory.
Logan Webb was magnificent for seven innings. While the Dodgers tried to follow a plan to attack the Giants’ ace, they couldn’t get to Webb. In the sixth, Ben Rortvedt singled and advanced to third on Shohei Ohtani’s double. Rortvedt scored on the opposing catcher’s error. Freddie Freeman singled in Ohtani.
