On a beautiful Saturday night at Dodger Stadium, the Los Angeles Dodgers retook first place in the National League Western Division. The Dodgers shut out the San Diego Padres 6-to-0. The Padres won’t leave Los Angeles in first place.

Will Smith helped Blake Snell until he settled down. Smith threw out three potential base stealers in the first six outs.

Despite not as dominant as he was against the Blue Jays, Snell did his job for six innings. He baffled the Padres. He struck out three while allowing five hits and issuing two walks.

Dylan Cease couldn’t find the strike zone in the first inning. In the first, Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, and Smith walked to load the bases. Teoscar Hernández had a sacrifice fly. Michael Conforto had a crucial two-run single.

In the second, Ohtani and Smith walked. Freddie Freeman hit a deep fly ball to center field, but the Padres’ center fielder dropped it, allowing Ohtani and Smith to score.

In the fifth, Teoscar Hernández blasted a solo home run for the second consecutive game.

Edgardo Henriquez, Anthony Banda, and Jack Dreyer were brilliant in relief.
