After a night when they had only three hits, the Los Angeles Dodgers had twelve hits. On a picturesque Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium, the Dodgers walloped the Saint Louis Cardinals 12-to-6. Both Max Muncy and Teoscar Hernández had two home runs.
While Emmet Sheehan only lasted five innings, he gave the Dodgers exactly what they needed. He allowed five hits and struck out five. He issued a walk. Sheenan worked the strike zone well and changed speed effectively. He earned another start.
The bullpen – Jack Dreyer, Ben Casparius, Alex Vesia, Alexis Diaz, and Anthony Banda – struggled, but with the large lead, they had enough runs to lean on.
For the first time in many games, Mookie Betts smiled about his offensive performance. He had three hits, including a double, and a walk.
In the first, Shohei Ohtani doubled, advanced to third on Betts’ grounder, and scored on Freddie Freeman’s sacrifice fly. Muncy socked a monstrous solo home run, his first since coming off the IL.
In the third, after Betts doubled, Muncy homered. Teoscar Hernández blasted his seventeenth.
To open the seventh, Ohtani and Betts walked. Muncy singled in Ohtani, and Teoscar Hernández had a three-run homer.
Ohtani had an infield single to start the eighth. Betts singled Ohtani to third. Freeman’s sacrifice fly scored Ohtani. Muncy singled Betts to second. Michael Conforto singled in Betts.
