According to Dave Roberts, Blake Treinen’s season is over.
While warming up in the bullpen during the Dodgers’ 4–3 victory on Saturday, Treinen felt something in his right shoulder. It’s bad. The Dodgers are getting imaging, although Roberts didn’t know whether it would be on Saturday or Sunday. When Roberts used the word “blowout” with a pitcher’s shoulder, it’s bad.
What does this mean for the Dodgers’ playoffs? Treinen’s career?
The Dodgers don’t have a reliable right-handed reliever with playoff experience.
They probably will have Kyle Hurt on the active roster. Before June, Hurt was dominant, but since then, he has struggled as he has become a full-time major leaguer and has been adjusting to his new arm after having Tommy John surgery and missing the entire 2025 season. He has been in Oklahoma City trying to regain his dominance.
With Evan Phillips, Roki Sasaki, and Edwin Díaz pitching well, the loss of Treinen is less critical than in previous years.
The Dodgers will survive without Treinen. But for the man, it is devastating.
At 38, Treinen may be facing a career-ending injury. He has had right shoulder injuries before. They limited him to five games in the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
The Dodgers wouldn’t have won the 2024 World Series without Treinen. In Game 5 of the 2024 World Series against the New York Yankees, he pitched 2.1 scoreless innings.
Since then, he has battled right forearm inflammation. This year, he was out from mid-June to September 2nd with it. His sheer determination allowed him to return.
Treinen is a man of faith. If this injury means the end of his baseball playing career, he can enjoy his retirement, knowing that he has helped the Dodgers win three World Championships in 2020, 2024, and 2025.
