Under red skies in Cincinnati on Monday night, the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Cincinnati Reds 5-to-2. The whole lineup supported Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who was fantastic.
For the first time in the 2025 season, Yoshinobu Yamamoto had adequate offensive support. Despite allowing a run in the first, Yamamoto kept the Reds off balance. He used his sinker more than usual. He worked with Dalton Rushing flawlessly. Yamamoto struck out nine outs and issued two walks on 101 pitches in seven innings.
For the first time in July, Mookie Betts had two hits in a game. While nobody had a home run, the Dodgers got the key hit when they needed it to score. To start the first, Betts doubled, Shohei Ohtani grounded out, moving Betts to third, and Teoscar Hernández singled in Betts.
In the fifth, Miguel Rojas doubled. Betts singled Rojas to third. Ohtani’s double scored Rojas and Betts.
In the seventh, after Betts and Ohtani walked, Teoscar Hernández singled in Betts, and Freddie Freeman singled in Ohtani.
Alex Vesia hurled well in the eighth.
For the first time since April, Blake Treinen appeared in the major leagues. While getting two outs, Treinen loaded the bases and allowed a run.
Jack Dreyer relieved Treinen and got the last out of the victory.
Before the game, the Dodgers were forced to scratch Tommy Edman because of his troublesome ankle. Dave Roberts wanted to hit for Hyeseong Kim, whose shoulder is compromising his offensive production, but Edman couldn’t play defense. Alex Freeland is being called up to replace an infielder on the 26-man roster.
