On a beautiful Friday night at Dodger Stadium, when the Los Angeles Dodgers honored their longtime third baseman, Ron Cey, their offense was still on vacation.
The Dodgers wasted a fantastic six-inning effort by Tyler Glasnow when they were shutout by the Milwaukee Brewers 2-to-0.
Glasnow was efficient through his six innings when he relied on his infield defense, particularly Tommy Edman and Hyeseong Kim. He struck out six. In the fifth, Glasnow walked his only batter of the outing. A double followed the walk, good for a run. Because of this, Glasnow was unreservedly credited with a loss.
Kirby Yates allowed a solo home run in the seventh. While Will Klein and Lou Trivino didn’t allow a run, they had traffic. If Mookie Betts and Will Smith didn’t make a remarkable defensive play, the Brewers would have scored more.
At no point during the game, the Dodgers were close to scoring a run. Freddie Freeman had a double and a walk. Hyeseong Kim had a single but was erased on a force play by Shohei Ohtani, who stole a base.
Since Max Muncy was injured on July 2nd, the Dodgers have struggled offensively. Before the game, Dave Roberts said Muncy was hitting, fielding, and running. He is on track to return sooner than expected.
