Tanner Scott threw nine consecutive strikes to conclude a 4–0 victory over the Cincinnati Reds. Freddie Freeman returned to the lineup and had three hits. The magic number is two to win the National League West.

Shohei Ohtani hit off the tee for the first time since going on the IL. According to Dave Roberts, Ohtani felt good. Roberts doesn’t know if Ohtani will return before the regular season ends.

Andy Pages hit real baseballs in the cage. He is trending toward returning during the homestand.

Dalton Rushing is making strides to return at some point this year.

After the injury updates, Yoshinobu Yamamoto pitched a gem after giving everyone a scare.

For the first time in his major-league career, Yamamoto walked the first two hitters of the game. This even scared Joe Davis. After a meeting on the mound with Hunter Feduccia and Mookie Betts, Yamamoto settled down. At no point during Tuesday’s seven-inning outing did he have his usual brilliant fastball command, but he used his off-speed pitches. He retired 21 out of 22 hitters.

Yamamoto said that he had a mechanical problem with the first two hitters. He also said, “I focused on pitches.”

Freeman said, “I have no pain in the knee today.” He is trying to find something to get hot in the next couple of weeks.

The Dodgers continued to hit into double plays, but they scored enough to win. In the second inning, Feduccia singled in Max Muncy. Teoscar Hernández continued his hot hitting with a two-run homer in the third inning. In the seventh, Alex Freeland added a solo shot.

Brock Stewart was sharp in the eighth inning.

Tanner Scott walked the leadoff hitter in the ninth inning and then allowed a single to Elly De La Cruz. Scott seemed to bear down and threw nine straight strikes to end the game.

With Blake Snell on the mound, the Dodgers will try to decrease their magic number.
