Mookie Betts’ eighth-inning, three-run homer gave the Dodgers a sweep of the Nationals. For the first time since April 2024, Bobby Miller earned a major-league win.

On a rare rainy Sunday night at Dodger Stadium, the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Washington Nationals, 7-5. They maintained a game lead over the Atlanta Braves to skip the National League Wild Card series.

Justin Wrobleski was brilliant for the first three innings and then couldn’t get out of the fourth inning. Since the beginning of August, he has struggled to prevent hard contact. He couldn’t retire a batter in the fourth inning. He might need to be effectively wild. He allowed four runs and had six strikeouts and one walk.

Brock Stewart and Blake Treinen, pitching for the first time since June, were sharp in relief.

Miller came up with the Dodgers in May 2023 and was a major part of the starting rotation. In 2024, he began in the rotation and pitched a gem against the St. Louis Cardinals. Then, he had right shoulder inflammation. He came back and wasn’t effective. The last time he pitched in the major leagues was in May 2025 against the New York Mets.

This season he had another shoulder injury that slowed his progression as a reliever. On Sunday, he pitched for the Dodgers for the first time in 2026. In his first inning, he pitched in the rain and allowed one run. After the game, he said that he couldn’t feel his legs in the first inning he pitched. His command improved greatly in his second and third innings.

The Dodgers’ offense routinely had timely hits. After missing Saturday’s game because he was “under the weather,” Max Muncy had three hits. Tommy Edman continued his hot hitting with a single and run-producing double.

In the eighth inning, Alex Call singled and Edman walked. Lengthening his on-base streak to sixteen games, Betts delivered the winning blow.

The Dodgers are playing well even though they are not at full strength yet.

The Dodgers expect Shohei Ohtani to return to the lineup on Monday. He came out well after taking batting practice during Saturday’s game.

Andy Pages took pain-free dry swings for the first time since breaking his hand.

The Dodgers had to put Dalton Rushing back on the IL. He had an aggressive throwing session and strained his injured right elbow.

On Monday, the Dodgers will try to continue their winning streak against the Cincinnati Reds.
