Tanner Scott wasted a possible win. Though the Dodgers had their chances, they couldn’t cash them in.

The Los Angeles Dodgers lost to the Atlanta Braves, 6-5, on a hot Wednesday night at Truist Park.

No Dodger fan needs to know what the recap is. The Dodgers left the bases loaded twice. The Braves wasted scoring opportunities, too, but when it counted, they took advantage of Scott’s inability to retire the last out of the ninth.

This has been the recurring theme of the 2026 season since July. The offense finally showed some life and power.

Roki Sasaki, who has been great since the All-Star break, had a difficult night, but he pitched well enough for the Dodgers to win. He had to leave the game in the fourth inning because of a blister on his middle finger.

Dave Roberts just said that Sasaki will go on the IL. Sasaki said that he didn’t have any warning before his skin ripped off in the fourth inning. Lauer will rejoin the starting rotation.

Scott was great in the first half of the year, but since the All-Star break, he has struggled. He might be dealing with a physical problem like last year when he had a lower-body issue. His slider got too much of the plate after retiring the first two batters quickly in the ninth inning, and the Braves took advantage.

The Dodgers need another pitcher who can close games other than Scott, who appears weary.

Roberts blamed the defense and the offensive approach for the loss. Yes, Teoscar Hernández overran a ball in left field that allowed two runs to score, but the Dodgers’ defense was good this game, including Hernández catching a fly ball over his head. A lot of Dodgers had good at-bats.

On Thursday, the Dodgers will try to salvage one against the Braves and Chris Sale. Yoshinobu Yamamoto needs to do his usual thing.
