Tommy Edman got his seventh walk-off hit after Kyle Hurt gave up a game-trying, two-run homer in the eighth inning.

On an incredible hot Friday night at Dodger Stadium, the Los Angeles Dodgers inched out the Pittsburgh Pirates, 5–4, in ten innings.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto was sharp for 6.1 innings. He used his sinker to baffle the Pirates. He dotted his pitches where he wanted to. He needed time to settle down. He struck out nine while walking one.

The Pirates are a good offensive club, which scored more runs than the Dodgers. They were aggressive against Yamamoto. If they play well over the last six innings, they could be in the playoffs for the first time in a decade.

In the first inning, after Shohei Ohtani walked, Max Muncy homered. In the third inning, Mookie Betts had a two-run single.

Brock Stewart was sharp, finishing the seventh inning.

Hurt threw two center-cut pitches that allowed two runs. Eduardo Henriquez was sharp in the eighth and ninth innings.

While Evan Phillips allowed a single to open the tenth inning, he was sharp in the frame with a strikeout and coaxing a double play.

In the third inning, Andy Pages was hit by a 100-per-hour fastball. He tried to remain in the game but couldn’t. The pitch fractured Pages’ left hand. Dave Roberts estimated that Pages would miss 4-5 weeks, but this season has five weeks remaining. This injury is a blow. After the game, Andrew Friedman, Brandon Games, and Roberts will meet to discuss what to do without Pages.

Before the game, Will Smith took batting practice and caught some normal-speed pitches in the bullpen. He won’t accompany the team to Atlanta and Detroit. Roberts thinks Smith can be activated on the next home stand.

On Saturday, the Dodgers will try to continue their winning streak with Tarik Skubal on the mound.
