On a coolish Saturday night at Dodger Stadium, despite a two-run ninth-inning rally, the Los Angeles Dodgers suffered a 3–2 loss to the Baltimore Orioles.

Coming off a no-hit bid, Yoshinobu Yamamoto didn’t have his most effective start of the season. He didn’t have his customary brilliant command, but he battled through six innings. He allowed three runs while striking out six and walking two. Yamamoto couldn’t find his splitter effectiveness, so he struggled with putting away hitters.

Edgardo Henriquez, Alex Vesia, and Jonathan Hernández were sharp in relief.

Through the first seven innings, the Dodgers couldn’t launch a rally against Trevor Rogers. Rogers didn’t allow a hit until the fifth inning when Tommy Edman singled.

Before the ninth inning, Edman was the only Dodger with hits. The two-time dad Shohei Ohtani began the inning with a solo home run. Freddie Freeman walked and went to second on Mookie Betts’ single. Freeman scored on an error by the right fielder.

Before the game, the Dodgers put Blake Treinen on the IL because of right elbow inflammation. He might miss a significant amount of time.

Emmet Sheehan will try to bounce back from a difficult start against the Chicago White Sox after struggling in June.
