Justin Wrobleski was brilliant for six innings, and Shohei Ohtani supplied the offense.
In an hour and fifty-two minutes, the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Tampa Bay Rays, 1–0. They pitched their major league-leading ninth shutout in 2026.
Pitching on four days’ rest, Wrobleski cruised through six innings because the Rays couldn’t lift the ball. He could have pitched longer than he did, but he had already reached his career high in innings. The Dodgers need Wrobleski to make his starts for the rest of the season.
In his outing, Wrobleski located his arsenal on the corners of the strike zone. He didn’t allow a fly ball until the fifth inning. The defense behind him, except for an error by Max Muncy, was flawless. He allowed three hits while striking out five and walking none.
Will Klein, Kyle Hurt, and Tanner Scott were sharp in relief.
Although the Dodgers wasted a few scoring opportunities, in the sixth inning, Ohtani homered.
Before the game, the Dodgers DFAed Santiago Espinal and activated Tommy Edman. Edman had been dealing with an ankle injury since 2024. After the 2025 World Series, he underwent ankle surgery. His recovery was slower than expected because he experienced pain while running.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Dodgers will go for the sweep of the Rays. Ohtani will be on the mound but won’t hit. Edman will play third base while Muncy rests.
