Tanner Scott gave up a long solo home run to blow his second save in a week.
On Thursday night at Chase Field, the Los Angeles Dodgers fell to the Arizona Diamondbacks, 3–2.
The Dodgers wasted another brilliant six-inning outing by Justin Wrobleski. He didn’t walk anyone while striking out four. He relied on his slider and curveball to baffle the Diamondbacks as he surpassed his major league career high in innings.
In the fifth inning, Max Muncy collided with the first baseman on an infield single. He immediately left the game. The Dodgers think he will be okay, but he won’t play on Friday night.
After Muncy’s infield single, Santiago Espinal, pinch-running for him, scored on Ryan Ward’s double, and Dalton Rushing singled in Ward. The Dodgers had only three at-bats with runners in scoring position, and few teams will win with this anemic offensive production.
Kyle Hurt bounced back from a difficult outing on Tuesday to pitch a scoreless seventh inning.
Will Klein allowed the first home run in his major league career in the eighth inning, but at no time during his 0.2 of an inning did he look like himself. He couldn’t land his curveball for a strike. Alex Vesia came in to finish the inning but allowed a run-scoring single.
Scott started the ninth inning by getting an out, but on a decent pitch, slumping Kartel Marte hit the ball a mile. Before last Saturday, Scott was automatic. Every closer will blow a few saves a season.
On Friday, the Dodgers begin a three-game home stand against the Los Angeles Angels with Roki Sasaki on the mound.
