Three home runs drowned the Dodgers in the desert.
On a hot Monday night at Chase Field, the Los Angeles Dodgers fell to the Arizona Diamondbacks, 4–1.
Before the season, only a few pundits picked the Diamondbacks to be a factor in the National League West, but the Diamondbacks are a good team. They will be better when Corbin Burnes returns from Tommy John surgery later this season. They can compete with the Dodgers for the Western title.
Sheehan had a great 6.1 inning outing but was charged with the loss. He had all his stuff working though he didn’t get much swing-and-miss. While striking out three, he issued no walks. He retired ten consecutive batters, but he allowed two solo home runs to Tommy Troy and Nolan Arenado.
Alex Vesia was fine when he finished the seventh inning.
In his first outing after coming off the IL, Jack Dreyer gave up a two-run homer to Kartel Marte.
Although the Dodgers had seven at-bats with runners in the first three innings, they couldn’t capitalize on those situations. In the third inning, Freddie Freeman’s groundout brought home Shohei Ohtani. Eduardo Rodriguez, who has rebounded from two difficult seasons, completely baffled the Dodgers.
A couple of days ago, Brusdar Graterol underwent back surgery, and nobody knows when he will return. He hasn’t pitched in the major leagues since the 2024 World Series. In November 2024, he underwent right shoulder surgery. His recovery has been slowed because he hasn’t regained his super velocity.
With Eric Lauer on the mound, the Dodgers will look to even the series against the Diamondbacks.
