Mason Miller made a throwing error, leading to his first blown save of the 2026 season.
The Los Angeles Dodgers inched out the San Diego Padres, 5–4, on a beautiful Tuesday night at Petco Park.
Shohei Ohtani opened the game with a double. Freddie Freeman, who is under the weather, hit a two-run homer.
Emmet Sheehan didn’t have his best stuff tonight but gave the Dodgers four innings. He allowed a two-run homer to Manny Machado in the first inning. He allowed another two-run homer in the third inning after Hyeseong Kim made a nonchalant throw to first base, which kept the inning alive. Sheehan struck out two while walking one, but he never seemed to be in control. He couldn’t command his fastball.
Teoscar Hernández started the fifth inning with a double and scored on Ohtani’s groundout. In the sixth inning, Freeman blasted a home run.
The Dodgers’ bullpen is the unsung hero of this season. The relievers have now thrown 23 consecutive scoreless innings. Eduardo Henriquez, Alex Vesia, Blake Treinen, Tanner Scott, and Will Klein were sharp in relief, and Klein earned his first major league save.
Going into the ninth inning, the game was tied. With an out, Max Muncy walked on a challenged ball. Alex Call pinch-ran and was picked off, but Miller threw the ball down the first base line, allowing Call to go to third. Andy Pages battled 102 MPH fastballs and a devastating slider, lifting one for the game-winning sacrifice fly.
Earlier Tuesday, Blake Snell underwent successful NanoScope surgery to remove loose bodies from his left elbow. The Dodgers and Snell think he will return to the mound at some point this season.
On Wednesday, the Dodgers will look to win the series from the Padres. Shohei Ohtani will be on the mound.
