The Dodgers had good defense, offensive production, and dominating pitching to snap a four-game losing streak.
On a beautiful Wednesday night at Dodger Stadium, the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the San Francisco Giants, 4–0. The Dodgers remained 0.5 games behind the San Diego Padres for the lead in the National League West.
Pitching only, Shohei Ohtani dominated the Giants for seven innings. This was the second consecutive outing in which he went seven innings. He relied on his brilliant sweeper to baffle the Giants, but his whole repertoire was outstanding tonight. He struck out eight and walked two. After a 22-pitch first inning, Ohtani sailed through the next six innings.
Tanner Scott and Kyle Hurt were sharp in relief.
The Dodgers used sharp defense to support their pitchers.
In the third inning, Santiago Espinal and Mookie Betts went back-to-back. Those home runs seemed to relax the rest of the team.
Kyle Tucker started the fourth inning with his second double of the game. Teoscar Hernández singled him home. Hernández went to second on a passed ball. Miguel Rojas singled Hernández to third, and Hernández came home on Alex Call’s sacrifice fly.
Jason Heyward joined the Dodger organization as a special assistant. He will travel to minor league facilities and see if he can help the minor leaguers improve.
On Thursday, the Dodgers will look to earn a split in the series against the Giants. Emmet Sheehan will be on the mound.
