For the first time this season, the Dodgers have a three-game losing streak. Emmet Sheehan and Eduardo Henriquez weren’t sharp. Their offense couldn’t do anything.
On a beautiful Friday night at Busch Stadium, the Los Angeles Dodgers suffered a 7–2 loss to the Saint Louis Cardinals.
The young Cardinals have a five-game winning streak. Their aggressiveness at the plate helped them to beat the powerful Dodgers.
The Dodgers haven’t homered since Sunday. They don’t get a big hit with runners on base. They don’t know when they should be aggressive or patient at the plate.
Although Sheehan struck out eight, a season high, he had difficulty putting the Cardinals away. He allowed a three-run homer in the first inning and a solo shot in the third. For the first time in his major league career, he balked and rattled him.
In the second inning, Max Muncy doubled Andy Pages home. In the sixth inning, Kyle Tucker’s sacrifice fly scored Freddie Freeman.
This year, Henriquez hasn’t been effective. He allowed two runs on two hits. The young flamethrower has struggled with his command. He isn’t as polished as the other relievers for the Dodgers.
The Dodgers will look to get their offense going with Roki Sasaki on the mound on Saturday.
