For once, Yoshinobu Yamamoto lacked his customary command and didn’t go more than five innings. The Dodgers didn’t support him offensively.

On Japanese Heritage Night at Dodger Stadium, the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Miami Marlins, 5–4, on Kyle Tucker’s two-run single with two outs in the ninth inning.

To begin the game, Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman singled, and Teoscar Hernández followed with a two-run single.

Yamamoto was wilder than normal, allowing four walks and four runs, including a three-run homer to Liam Hicks. He didn’t have his fastball and splitter command. He struck out four.

Alex Vesia and Tanner Scott each struck out the side in the sixth and seventh innings. Eduardo Henriquez and Jake Eder pitched sharply in the eighth and ninth innings.

The Dodgers wasted many scoring opportunities until the ninth inning. To open the last frame, Andy Pages and Dalton Rushing walked. After Miguel Rojas popped up a sacrifice bunt attempt, Ohtani had a ground-rule double to bring home Pages. Freeman walked to load the bases. After Will Smith struck out, Tucker delivered a two-run single to give his new team a walk-off win.

Before the game, Edwin Díaz talked about his elbow surgery last Wednesday. He said his valuable right arm feels “great,” and he hopes to rejoin the active roster after the All-Star break.

On Tuesday, Blake Snell makes his second rehabilitation start.

The Dodgers will continue their winning ways on Tuesday with Ohtani on the mound.
