When Justin Wrobleski didn’t have his best command, he still went six scoreless innings and received the win.
On a picturesque Sunday afternoon at Dodger Stadium, the Los Angeles Dodgers shut out the Chicago Cubs, 6–0, to take the series from a potential playoff team.
Since joining the starting rotation, Wrobleski has been sharp. On Sunday, he walked four and hit a batter. Despite having constant traffic, the Cubs couldn’t cash in as he struck out six. He remained calm on the mound despite not having his customary good control. This season, he has shown he belongs in the Dodgers’ rotation.
Eduardo Henriquez and Jack Dreyer pitched through traffic but kept the Cubs quiet. Kyle Hurt breezed through the ninth inning.
Shohei Ohtani entered the series mired in a slump. Facing the Cubs helped him break out of it. He opened the game with a walk, stole second, took third on a throwing error, and scored on Andy Pages’ sacrifice fly. Miguel Rojas followed with a two-run double.
To begin the sixth inning, Pages doubled to break out of his slump. Kyle Tucker walked. Dalton Rushing singled Pages home. Tucker scored on an errant pickoff throw.
In the seventh inning, Ohtani broke a 12-game homerless streak, the longest as a Dodger, by blasting an opposite-field solo shot.
On Monday, the Dodgers will welcome the surprising Miami Marlins.
