“The young man is becoming a veteran,” Orel Hershiser said of Andy Pages after his tie-breaking, two-run double.

Pages added another two-run homer in the eighth. Watching him this season has been a pure joy both offensively and defensively. No one knew how the 24-year-old center fielder would respond after a rough postseason, though he made a pivotal catch in Game 7 that helped secure the Dodgers’ repeat.

For the first time in a Dodger uniform, Edwin Díaz blew a save with a three-run lead.

On his third home run of the night, Max Muncy sent the sellout crowd home happy. The Los Angeles Dodgers edged the Texas Rangers, 8–7.

Although Tyler Glasnow didn’t have the best start of the year, he kept his team in the game while giving them six innings. He struck out seven while allowing a three-run home run to old friend Corey Seager and a solo homer. He looked sharp though he didn’t have the pinpoint command he showed in his first two starts.

Alex Vesia and Tanner Scott were perfect in relief.

It’s difficult to ignore Muncy’s three homers, but Pages has been carrying the Dodgers through the first thirteen games. His .429 batting average leads the major leagues. On Wednesday, he struck out three times, but on Friday, after an off day, he had three hits. If Pages continues, even his teammate Shohei Ohtani could have competition for the National League MVP.

The Dodgers had a great beginning to the home stand.
