On a hot Thursday afternoon at Camelback Ranch in Glendale, Arizona, the Los Angeles Dodgers lengthened their winning streak to six by beating the Chicago White Sox 7-to-6. The Dodgers are the only team in spring training that remains unbeaten, and they are still improving.
Max Muncy and Alex Call made their Cactus League debuts on Thursday, and Dave Roberts thinks Mookie Betts will appear in a game on Sunday afternoon.
Tyler Glasnow looked sharp in his first 2+ innings of spring, striking out four and allowing one single.
This offseason, Glasnow put on twenty pounds and got married. He averaged 1.5 mph higher on his fastball in velocity. His phenomenal curveball baffled the White Sox. Last year, the opposition had a .104 batting average against Glasnow’s curveball. The Dodgers hope the extra weight will help him on the field. In the two previous seasons, Glasnow missed significant time with various injuries. When healthy, he dominates the opposition.
Will Smith had the first home run of spring for the Dodgers.
Hyeseong Kim continues to impress before he leaves for the World Baseball Classic to play for Team South Korea. On Thursday, while playing second, Kim showed a strong, accurate throwing arm on a spectacular defensive play. He also homered.
On the back fields, the Dodgers worked on run-down plays. Although the Dodgers are a veteran team, they still emphasize fundamentals. The Dodger organization doesn’t take anything for granted, even though the national media thinks the Dodgers are guaranteed to make the playoffs.
