Dodger pitchers struck out nineteen Cincinnati Reds in a 5-to-1 victory.

Shohei Ohtani went five innings and struck out nine to earn his first win as a Dodger. The Dodgers had timely hitting in the fourth inning when they scored four runs, and Michael Conforto socked a solo home run in the eighth. The Dodgers are the only team to sweep the Reds in the 2025 season. The Dodgers lead the San Diego Padres by two games in the National League Western Division.

On a warm early Wednesday evening at Dodger Stadium, Shohei Ohtani rebounded from a poor start at Coors Field. Before the game, pitching coach Mark Prior hoped Ohtani would be less predictable, and Ohtani used his slider and 12-6 curveball. He allowed a solo home run, but he was dominant. Ohtani issued two walks and allowed two hits.

Ohtani started the fourth-inning rally with a single. Teoscar Hernández singled, and first baseman Kiké Hernández singled in Ohtani and Hernández and moved Pages to second. Michael Conforto’s grounder advanced Hernández and Pages into scoring position. After Miguel Rojas walked intentionally, Dalton Rushing singled in Hernández and Pages.

Jack Dreyer was brilliant in the sixth inning.

While Justin Wrobleski struggled in the seventh, he pitched a scoreless inning.

Edgardo Henriquez was excellent in the eighth.

Conforto hit his first home run against a left-handed pitcher this year and in August. During the series against the Reds, Conforto had five hits.

Blake Treinen looked like himself and earned the save.

Freddie Freeman couldn’t play on Wednesday because he had a stinger in his neck. It is an annual problem with Freeman, but Dave Roberts thinks Freeman will be able to play on Friday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Tuesday night, Alex Call reactivated an SI issue in his back. Roberts doesn’t think Call’s back issue is minor.
