On July 5, the Los Angeles Dodgers had a 9-game lead over the San Diego Padres.
Now, they trail the Padres by a game in the National League Western Division.
On Saturday, the Dodgers had two hits in their 5-to-1 loss to the Padres. Tyler Glasnow couldn’t get to the fifth inning. Ben Casparius and Justin Wrobleski pitched well until the eighth when he gave up two runs.
In December 2023, the Dodgers traded for Tyler Glasnow from the Tampa Bay Rays for two promising young players. The Dodgers immediately extended Glasnow to a lucrative contract extension. Glasnow has been a disappointment for the Dodgers.
When Glasnow has been healthy, he is okay. He had right forearm inflammation that kept him from playing last August until the postseason ended. This year, Glasnow was great during spring training with a new delivery, but in April, he developed overall body soreness and missed until July 7th.
On Saturday, Glasnow struggled with his command. He walked four in four innings. In the fourth, he couldn’t find a put-out pitch. The Padres took advantage of their scoring opportunity, like a good team does.
The Dodgers never had a scoring opportunity. If Alex Freeland didn’t have a pinch-hit home run, the Padres would have shut out the Dodgers. Miguel Rojas had the only single. The Dodgers didn’t receive a walk. They didn’t have any scoring opportunities.
Ben Casparius and Justin Wrobleski pitched well. Wrobleski was tired in the eighth when he allowed a two-run double.
