A weary, inexperienced bullpen equals another loss for the Los Angeles Dodgers and a second place in the National League Western Division.

For the first time in history, the Los Angeles Angels swept the Dodgers in the annual Freeway Series.

The Dodgers lost to the Angels 6-to-5. While the Dodgers had great offense in four innings, they didn’t get a hit after the fourth inning.

Shohei Ohtani opened the game with a triple and scored on Mookie Betts’ single. After Freddie Freeman struck out, Will Smith blasted his fifteenth home run of the 2025 season.

In the fourth, Alex Call had an infield single, and Alex Freeland walked. Ohtani walked to load the bases. Betts singled in Call. Smith walked in Freeland.

Ohtani was good until the fifth, but he ran out of gas. He used eighty pitches in his 4.1 innings. His previous high was 58 pitches this season. He struck out seven while issuing no walks.  He gave up five hits, good for four runs.

Anthony Banda pitched well to get out of the fifth. Justin Wrobleski pitched scoreless sixth and seventh innings. In the eighth, Wrobleski issued two walks, and Dave Roberts brought in Edgardo Henriquez, and he couldn’t keep the lead.

Before the game, Max Muncy felt soreness in his right side. While Dave Roberts doesn’t think Muncy’s sore side is associated with last year’s injury, which made him miss three months, Muncy is undergoing tests on Thursday.
