After an exhausting road trip, the Los Angeles Dodgers dropped to the Saint Louis Cardinals 3-to-2 on a beautiful Monday night at Dodger Stadium.
Tyler Glasnow was magnificent for seven innings, allowing a solo home run. In his last start against the Cincinnati Reds, he struggled and couldn’t get out of the fifth inning, but on Monday, despite not having his best stuff, he displayed mental toughness to get through his outing. He issued two walks and struck out seven. If the bullpen did its customary outstanding performances, the Dodgers could have won the game.
Anthony Banda pitched the eighth and allowed a solo home run.
Weak hits victimized Brock Stewart, who was credited with the loss. Jack Dreyer retired the last out of the ninth.
When the Dodgers had only three hits, they won’t win many. In the fourth, Freddie Freeman socked a solo home run. In the eighth, Teoscar Hernández doubled, went to third on Michael Conforto’s ground out, and a pinch runner scored on Andy Pages’ grounder.
While the Dodgers threatened in the ninth when Shohei Ohtani singled and Will Smith walked, the Cardinals’ right fielder made an excellent defensive play that killed the rally.
