On a miserable Sunday afternoon at George Steinbrenner Field in Tampa Bay, the Los Angeles Dodgers finished their nine-game road trip with a 3-to-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays. The Dodgers had a 5-4 road trip.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto had his second marvelous start on the road trip. Toiling under a very strong sun, Yamamoto amazed the crowd with his ability to work the corners effortlessly. Using 88 pitches, he pitched 5.2 innings during which he allowed five hits and struck out eight. He was slow covering first base once, but he rectified the situation.
Alex Vesia and Brock Stewart pitched marvelously in relief. Despite loading the bases while retiring two hitters in the ninth, Blake Treinen didn’t allow a run. Ben Casparius earned his second major league career save.
After being shut out on Saturday, the Dodgers waited until the sixth. To start the sixth, Freddie Freeman singled. Michael Conforto walked. Andy Pages singled in Freeman.
With an out in the seventh, Shohei Ohtani had an infield single. Mookie Betts walked. Ohtani and Betts executed a perfect double steal. Freeman singled in Ohtani.
Alex Call, who came from the Washington Nationals on Thursday, walked with an out in the ninth. Ohtani doubled Call to third. Call scored on Betts’ sacrifice fly.
Tommy Edman left the game with a sprained ankle after singling. Since May, Edman has been struggling with this right troublesome ankle. Hopefully, the Dodgers will put Edman on the IL.
