On a picturesque Sunday afternoon at Dodger Stadium, the Milwaukee Brewers completed the seasonal series against the Los Angeles Dodgers by inching out the Dodgers 6-to-5.
Before the game, Dave Roberts made a drastic lineup change. The slumping Mookie Betts moved in the leadoff spot, and Shohei Ohtani hit second. In the third, Betts singled, and Ohtani slugged a two-run homer.
No team can win when they commit three errors.
The Dodgers showed a comeback spirit when they scored a run. Betts lined out to the game.
The Dodgers need to play better. They can play better. Freeman’s wrist is hanging over the team. Right now, the Dodgers call it a contusion, but further testing needs to be done.
Clayton Kershaw didn’t make it out of the fifth since his defense let him, but he couldn’t get a strikeout. In his 4.1 innings, Kershaw allowed five hits, walked one, and struck out two. Tommy Edman’s throwing error and Andy Pages’ whiff on a fly ball undermined Kershaw’s outing.
Alex Vesia relieved Kershaw with runners on first and third with one out in the fifth and escaped from the jam scorelessly. He started the sixth and retired one out, allowing a double. Lou Trivino relieved Vesia and promptly allowed the tying-run single. Then, he loaded the bases.
With two outs in the sixth, Will Klein relieved Trivino with the bases loaded. He allowed a single that scored two runs, but the Brewers ran into an out to end the inning.
Freddie Freeman left the game after being hit in the right wrist. He didn’t go to first base. Freeman has a history of wrist injuries.
Kirby Yates and Anthony Banda pitched well in the eighth and ninth.
