Tanner Scott blew only two saves in the 2024 season, and now, he has a major league-leading ten blown saves.
On Tuesday night at Chase Field, the Los Angeles Dodgers lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-to-4. While baseball is a team sport, this Dodger loss was on the bullpen only.
Shohei Ohtani was brilliant for six innings for the first time this year. This was his 1000th major league start. He kept the Diamondbacks off balance. At no time during his start was he in trouble.
Teoscar Hernández had a big game, driving in three runs. In the second, he homered, and in the fifth, he tripled in two runs. In the sixth, Ben Rortvedt blasted his first home run as a Dodger. While four runs aren’t a lot, they should be enough to win, particularly in the postseason.
On Tuesday, no reliever was good for the Dodgers, and this is an ongoing story for the Dodgers. However, Jack Dreyer has been good and just had a difficult outing. Edgardo Henriquez had runners on base when he came into the game. Alex Vesia needed a little help from Rortvedt to hurl a scoreless eighth inning.
However, Tanner Scott was signed to be the guy to preserve leads. He couldn’t change the area where his pitches went. He didn’t have command of his pitches. When they were in the strike zone, they were hit. He hit a batter and issued a walk. He doesn’t seem to have any confidence in his ability. While he had four scoreless outings, he didn’t have it on Tuesday.
Dave Roberts doesn’t know who he can employ to get outs in late innings. Clayton Kershaw is in the bullpen. Roki Sasaki is going to be in the bullpen on Wednesday.
Shohei Ohtani hasn’t allowed a run during the month of September, but he has no wins for his excellent work since the bullpen couldn’t hold the opposition at bay.
