On a hot Sunday afternoon at Dodger Stadium, the Los Angeles Dodgers couldn’t get the necessary big hit to beat the Toronto Blue Jays. The Dodgers lost to the Blue Jays 5-to-4, and they lead the San Diego Padres by two games.
Tyler Glasnow struggled with his command, but he pitched well for 5.2 innings. After the third inning, he dominated. He struck out eight while issuing four walks and allowing four hits and two runs. Early in the game, Glasnow struggled with his mechanics, but he figured it out as the game progressed.
Anthony Banda, Justin Wrobleski, and Ben Casparius pitched well, but Blake Treinen and Alex Vesia allowed three solo home runs in the eighth and ninth.
With thirteen walks, the Dodgers should have scored more than four runs. In the first, Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman had solo home runs. Freeman drove in two more runs with two walks. The Dodgers’ offense must perform better than they have to keep the lead in the National League Western Division. For the last week, Mookie Betts has been acting like himself offensively, a terrific sign. Since Max Muncy came off the IL, he has been hot offensively, playing a vital role in the Dodgers’ three victories this week.
