On a muggy Friday night at Fenway Park, the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Boston Red Sox 5-to-2. Teoscar Hernández hit his first home run, a two-run shot, in a month.

Although Emmet Sheehan loaded the bases in the first inning, he had a marvelous five-inning outing. In the third, he allowed three consecutive hits for two runs. He allowed only those hits but struck out five. He issued two walks. If Sheenan can build on this outing, it will be fantastic for the Dodgers.

Anthony Banda, Edgardo Henriquez, Alex Vesia, and Ben Casparius, who earned his first major league save,  pitched outstandingly in relief. Unlike on the previous home stand, the Dodgers’ relievers didn’t issue a walk.

The Dodgers’ offense took advantage of most of their scoring opportunities. In the second, Andy Pages doubled and advanced to third on Michael Conforto’s ground ball. Tommy Edman’s infield single scored Pages.

In the third, the Dodgers took advantage of the Red Sox’s pitching problems. Shohei Ohtani, Will Smith, and Freddie Freeman singled to load the bases. Teoscar Hernández walked in a run, and Pages had a sacrifice fly to score another run.

In the eighth, after Freeman singled, Hernández blasted a two-run homer.

For personal reasons, Mookie Betts missed the game. He was in Tennessee. The Dodgers expect him back tomorrow night.
