On a beautiful Sunday afternoon, the Los Angeles Dodgers won the last game before the All-Star break. In eleven innings, the Dodgers beat the San Francisco Giants 5-to-2. Yoshinobu Yamamoto was brilliant for seven innings. Freddie Freeman drove in the first run, and Miguel Rojas blasted a solo home run. Tanner Scott blew a save, but the Dodgers didn’t give up. Freddie Freeman drove in the winning run.
Coming off his worst and shortest major league outing, Yoshinobu Yamamoto rebounded nicely. While Yamamoto was named to the National League All-Star team, he will be ineligible to participate in the game. He allowed only three hits and issued two walks while striking out seven. At no point during the game was Yamamoto in trouble. After 91 pitches, Dave Roberts relieved Yamamoto.
Alex Vesia was brilliant in the eighth.
In the fourth, the slumping Freddie Freeman doubled in Shohei Ohtani. In the sixth, Miguel Rojas homered.
When the Dodgers signed Tanner Scott to a four-year contract in January, they didn’t expect to have many blow leads. On Sunday, Scott issued a walk and then allowed a game-tying two-run homer.
The Dodgers battled back to score three runs in the eleventh. Freeman singled in James Outman, and Teoscar Hernández’s infield single scored Shohei Ohtani. Andy Pages singled in Freeman.
Ben Casparius won the game by pitching 1.1 innings.
