On a picturesque Saturday night at Dodger Stadium, the Los Angeles Dodgers lost to the Washington Nationals 7-to-3.
When Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, and Freddie Freeman went 1-for-12, the Dodgers didn’t expect to win many games. Will Smith, Andy Pages, and Teoscar Hernández hit solo home runs, but these players needed help to provide enough offense for the tired pitching staff.
Dustin May’s comeback continued on Saturday. For six innings, he allowed three home runs and walked two while striking out five. His sweeper and two-seam fastball worked. Next to Yoshinobu Yamamoto, May has been the most durable starter for the Dodgers even though he missed almost two years with right elbow surgery to repair the flexor tendon and reinforce the ulnar collateral ligament and life-saving esophagus repair.
For the first time since April, Jack Dreyer pitched two consecutive days and didn’t do well. He allowed a double and a two-run homer.
Lou Trivino, who was a significant part during the San Diego Padres series, allowed a solo home run and a walk before Dave Roberts relieved him with Will Klein, a new reliever from the Seattle Mariners. Klein didn’t pitch well but got out of the inning. Klein continued pitching in the ninth with a 1-2-3 inning.
Tomorrow Tyler Glasnow is scheduled to pitch two innings for the Oklahoma City Comets to begin his rehab assignment.
